The Federation of Damanhur

The Federation Of Damanhur, often called simply Damanhur, is a commune, ecovillage, and spiritual community situated in the Piedmont region of northern Italy about 30 miles (50 km) north of the city of Turin. It is located in the foothills of the Alps in the Valchiusella valley, bordering on the Gran Paradiso National Park. The community has its own constitution and currency, the Credito.
Damanhur is named after the Egyptian city of Damanhur which was the site of a temple dedicated to Horus.
It was founded in 1975 by Oberto Airaudi with around 24 followers, and had grown to 800 by the year 2000. The group holds a mix of New Age and neopagan beliefs. They gained fame in 1992 through the disclosure of their secret excavation of an extensive underground temple, the Temples of Humankind, which was begun in 1978 under complete secrecy. The Italian authorities ordered the work destroyed because it had been constructed without planning approval. This order was subsequently revoked.
Damanhur's supporters claim the growth and activity of the community has revitalized the local area.
The Federation of Damanhur has centers in Europe, America, and Japan.

This info on Damanhur is out of very out of date!
The Community has only 300 full time citizens and is considered a mind control cult in Italy. The Head of State has ordere an investigation. Its leader is currently accused of massive tax fraud and the Community is knee deep in court cases for illegal working practices, tax evasion, illegal building, fraud and vote manipulation...read all about the sophistication of the Damanhur confidence trick on the "damanhur inside out" site on wordpress

I think you're a bit exagerated here.
I happen to be italian and I've heard and read a lot about Damanhur, and the Wikipedia article which I quoted in my post is updated enough.
This is not "promoting" Damanhur, this is not a marketing operation (do you really think readers will join Damanhur after having read this?), this is just culture, and the undergroung engineering jobs disclosed in Damanhur are worth a note.

So irresponsible posting this. This community has had heavy accusations of cult like activity thrown at it, and any amount of research can show you that they operate on a less than honest basis. A thousand times scarier than scientology could ever be, this place is one of the most ruthless exploitation of humans there has ever been.

Naacal, I'm a person (Lion Kimbro, 206.427.2545, Kent WA USA) who's visited Damanhur, studied it a bit, loved my visit, and said good things about Damanhur.

There is an organized group of apostates who are going to every single site on the Internet where people say positive things about Damanhur, and say exactly the things you've read just above. It's a smear campaign by apostates.

Thank you, Lion, I agree with you.
